Requirements

The Assistant Director of Faculty Services manages support services for all Center for Security Studies (CSS)/Security Studies Program (SSP) core faculty, adjunct faculty, and post-doctoral fellows. S/he manages the program's course planning and assists the Director with new research and external/executive education initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Director of CSS, the Assistant Director has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Faculty Administrative Services
  • Partners with the Center Administrator on processing and onboarding all CSS/SSP adjunct faculty appointments.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for approximately 80 adjuncts and 11 core faculty, communicating time-sensitive information.
  • Provides general guidance and assistance to approximately 10-15 new adjuncts per semester, including managing incoming adjunct documents, one-on-one campus orientations, and technical training's.
  • Assists, trains, and advises faculty on all online learning platforms, including Blackboard, Canvas, Zoom, and GU360.
  • Advises faculty on all administrative processes related to NetIDs, GoCards, in-class technology, room reservations, book orders, grade submissions, instructional continuity, and other responsibilities while teaching at Georgetown.
  • Coordinates with the Registrar on classroom assignments, including the communication of disabilities and other special circumstances.
  • Reviews, edits, and distributes the faculty handbook annually, managing the logistics of all CSS/SSP courses and course syllabi with the Director of Teaching and Director of Graduate Studies.
  • Advises the Director and Associate Director on any faculty issues.
  • Coordinates and supports all faculty meetings, including orientations and biannual Director meetings.


Course Planning
  • Collaborates with directors, faculty, and academic staff to organize a very complex course plan involving 50+ courses per semester.
  • Coordinates all matters related to the course plan and faculty administration with the Registrar's Office, SFS Dean's Office, the Graduate School, and the School of Continuing studies, inputting data into CourseLeaf.
  • Manages the collection of course evaluation data, collecting, reviewing, updating, posting, and archiving syllabi for courses each semester.
  • Coordinates and advises the CSS/SSP course-planning working group on best practices, historical information, and any anticipated issues.


Research, External Education, and Executive Education Initiatives:
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director and Director of CSS to launch new externally-funded research initiatives, support external education relationships, and coordinate executive education programming with the SFS.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2-3 years of related professional experience, preferably working with faculty at a university
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and a commitment to outstanding customer service
  • Outstanding attention to detail and technical proficiency to meet the demands of the position are expected
