Assistant/Associate Director of Advising.

The George Mason University, Honors College is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Advising. Responsibilities:

Lead advising for the Honors College: * Co-advise Honors College undergraduate students in collaboration with departmental advisors. * Propose programs and initiatives targeting various student populations (e.g. LLCs, off-campus students, underperforming students, etc.) based on current best practices in advising and evaluate the results. * In coordination with other Honors College faculty and staff and departmental advisors, update advising materials and determine the best methods and timing for dissemination. * Supervise Honors College advisors, including doing annual performance evaluations. * Coordinate graduation audit process

Administer academic policies and procedures within the Honors College: * Manage academic policies and procedures (e.g. grade appeals, terminations, substitutions/waivers, study abroad, clearing for registration, coding and decoding of students, matters that might occur after adjunct faculty have left the college, etc.) in coordination with the curriculum committee. * Administer transfer and sophomore entry program for students transferring to Mason and students who are at Mason who would like to join the Honors College after their first year. * Keep student records (e.g. forms submitted to the registrar's office, transfer student evaluations, evaluations for students leaving the Honors College, etc.)

Participate in the Honors College and larger university community: * Lead Honors College advising committee * Serve on the Honors College curriculum committee * Serve on the Honors College student of concern committee * Attend Honors College staff meetings * Represent Honors College on appropriate college and university committees, including MAAN, Academic Advising Council, APAC (academic policy advisory committee), Academic liaison committee, etc. * Develop and maintain connections with student support services: Office of Disability Services, Office of Student Support, Housing, University Life, etc. * Meet with major advisors and department representatives at least twice per year.

Other duties as assigned. General Duties of Members of the Honors College Staff: * Working with the staff of the Honors College to develop the quality and reputation of all services and programs under its auspices. * Supporting the recruitment of students to the Honors College (including at Orientation and other recruitment events), in coordination with Admissions and the deans of the Honors College. * Attending Honors College staff and committee meetings and participating in staff development.

Required Qualifications: * Excellent communication, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills, including flexibility to work with students, faculty, and administrators associated with the program. * Ongoing involvement with issues related to higher education as demonstrated by university advising and academic administration. * Proficiency in current technology skills and university databases. * Graduate degree required. * Experience working with first generation and/or underrepresented students. * At least five years of experience as an academic advisor at a university.
