Administrative Director and Term Faculty (educator preparation focus) College of Education and Human Development, George Mason University

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at George Mason University seeks an Administrative Director focused on supporting undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a career as an educator, including licensure as a teacher. The Director will report directly to the CEHD Dean and will also have a faculty appointment, with regular teaching assignments, in one or more of the college's academic programs that prepare educators for teaching and administrative roles. Responsibilities: The administrative responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following broad areas of activity and engagement: (1) work in close collaboration with CEHD faculty and staff to enhance the experience of students in the College's educator preparation programs, including participation in the CEHD Educator Preparation Council; (2) coordinate CEHD's relationships with and outreach to schools and other organizations focused on the preparation of educators, including developing and maintaining relationships with school-based personnel involved with CEHD student placements, personnel recruitment and human resources; (3) oversee and work directly with CEHD faculty and staff who coordinate field experience and internship placements and applications for licensure/certification related to CEHD's educator preparation programs; (4) assist CEHD faculty and staff who advise and mentor prospective and current students in CEHD's educator preparation programs; (5) supervise initiatives regarding the recruitment, hiring, training, and assignment of university supervisors, while also coordinating the preparation of CEHD student field experience/internship materials, mentor teacher training modules, and university supervisor materials (including handbooks, forms, website pages, and other communications); (6) resolve issues and challenges associated with field placements, internship placements and CEHD student applied and professional experiences; (7) assist CEHD's Accreditation and External Reporting Office with required reporting to third parties and with work focused on the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and its Specialty Professional Associations; and (8) contribute to efforts to promote CEHD's educator preparation programs and the recruitment of prospective students. As a member of the College's instructional faculty, the Director will add an appropriate number of teaching assignments over the 12-month contractual period to these administrative assignments, while also contributing to the regular service obligations of the educator preparation program(s) in which these teaching contributions take place.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in a field of study related to educator preparation; at least 6 years of public school professional experience, including experience with university-based educator preparation programs; familiarity with research and associated best practices in the domain of educator preparation and a commitment to promote currency with and engagement in such scholarship; and effective engagement in responsible leadership and management positions.
