With a population of approximately 150,000 and a land area of 15.75 square miles, Alexandria is the seventh largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Alexandria has a charming waterfront and is a unique and historic place to live and work. About one-quarter square miles in the city have been designated as a national or local historic district. We proudly embrace our rich history and seize the endless opportunities that lie ahead. If you are interested in working for the vibrant City of Alexandria, we invite qualified candidates to apply for our Chief of Family Systems position.

An Overview
The Chief of Family Systems is vital to providing leadership to a network of child-serving agencies (public and private school, court, health, social and behavioral health) to ensure the service needs for vulnerable families are met. At the heart of this system of care is a shared set of guiding principles that include interagency collaboration, evidence-based practice, family-driven and youth-guided decision-making, individualized strength-based and trauma-informed care, equity, robust community-based services and accountability for outcomes.

The Chief of Family Systems is instrumental in helping the community overcome challenges in serving a diverse population of children, youth and families with significant issues related to trauma, mental health, substance use and other needs. The candidate will provide overall management and accountability of a program with nine-million-dollar budget (local and state funds) that ensures access to quality treatment and other services for approximately 200 children per year within the Virginia Children's Services Act (CSA) and the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) frameworks. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Children, Youth and Families and supervises two Management Analysts.

The ideal candidate brings a passion for developing a system that supports vulnerable children and families in the City of Alexandria to be their best possible selves. The candidate is a leader with diverse experience in program management, procurement and financial management, and knowledge or background in service delivery, either as a direct provider or as a senior manager of a public or non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of at-risk children and their families. The successful candidate brings a commitment to keep children in the community and return children to their homes as quickly and safely as possible, through a comprehensive system of care.
