The Disability Support Services Counselor's function is to assist in ensuring programmatic and physical accessibility for students with disabilities. This position works closely with students to provide academic advising and determine reasonable accommodations based on their disability documentation. The counselor also works closely with faculty and staff in providing these accommodations and ensuring accessibility. The counselor must be able to multi-task in a fast pace environment as the DSS Office serves approximately 800 students with disabilities each semester with the equivalent of four full time counselors.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Special Education or related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of laws protecting persons with disabilities such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Experience assessing students' documentation of disability and prescribing accommodations, preferably on the college level
- Experience providing advocacy and counseling to persons with disabilities, preferably on the college level
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Access
- Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Hours Per Week: 25
Work Schedule: 10am -4pm; Monday - Friday with some flexibility
Compensation: $28.19 per hour plus prorated health insurance, paid leave and tuition reimbursement
FLSA Status: Exempt
