Assistant Director for Off-Campus Student Services

The George Mason University Division of University Life invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director for Off-Campus Student Services. Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director is responsible for implementing initiatives that assist students in their transition to off-campus housing, specifically regarding building up off-campus property offerings and educating students on budgeting, leasing, etc...

The position is comprised of eight main components:

1. Develop and build an off-campus housing services office to assist in locating housing, roommate matching assistance, and lease/budget/legal education 2. Serve as a liaison between Mason and Fairfax/Arlington/Prince William cities and communities in how Mason students in these areas can benefit from increased communication 3. Attend municipal meetings, meet with city stakeholders, and strengthen communication with off-campus students, including coordinating the Good Neighbor program 4. Serve as a liaison between Off-Campus Student Services and Housing and Residence Life 5. Serve as a liaison between Mason and off-campus housing providers to enter into partnerships (Fairfax, Arlington, etc.) in coordination with the Director/Chief Housing Officer 6. Develop a University housing coalition with other universities in the Ballston Arlington area to explore Arlington housing options 7. Build a housing ambassador program to provide direct assistance to students transitioning off campus 8. Coordinate and market Off-Campus Housing Fairs.

Working together with the Associate Director, an Assistant Director, and a dynamic team of student leaders, this position will provide important leadership in the retention and student success of Mason's 27,000 off-campus students. As a professional staff member, the incumbent will have administrative responsibilities, such as budget management, professional development, and collaborating with campus partners. Additionally, it is important that the individual maintains active participation in key professional organizations relevant to the position.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in higher education, management, student development or a related field and/or equivalent professional work experience; strong working knowledge of renting off-campus properties;student leadership and training;and experience workingwith students in transitions.

It is vital that candidates possess exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and have experience in database management. A qualified candidate will have highly developed organizational management and problem-solving skills and must work accurately and efficiently in order to meet a multitude of deadlines and responsibilities. Candidates will have demonstrated leadership abilities and must have a commitment to diversity and be comfortable working within diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of related professional experience.
