The Kennedy Center, which opened on September 8, 1971, is located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The Center continues its efforts to fulfill President Kennedy's vision by producing and presenting an unmatched variety of theater and musicals, dance and ballet, orchestral, chamber, jazz, popular, world, and folk music, and multimedia performances for all ages.

Job Description:

The Advertising Design Manager will lead the design team in creating print and digital advertising, direct mail, collateral, and other materials as required by the Kennedy Center. The incumbent will design high-profile projects such as Special Event invitations and institutional publications, ensure proper implementation of the Brand in all materials, and creatively mentor the design team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 60% Creating designs for print and digital advertising, direct mail, collateral, Special Event invitations, institutional publications, and other materials.
  • 20% Mentoring the design team, providing creative direction, and monitoring their work to ensure adherence to the Brand standards and institutional excellence.
  • 10% Participating in strategy meetings on larger institutional design initiatives and season materials and implementing those directives in the department's work.
  • 5% Weekly coordination with the Assistant Manager, Advertising Design to guide priorities for the department and resolve any outstanding issues.
  • 5% Working with the Director, Creative and Brand Strategy to develop new opportunities to amplify the Brand and update the Brand Manual as necessary.
  • Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner, adheres to all employer policies and procedures, and other duties as assigned.


Key Qualifications:
  • You have at least 8 years' related professional experience, including supervisory experience.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in graphic design/advertising, or equivalent education.
  • You have proficiency in desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Cloud) in a PC environment.
  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates your ability and experience.
  • You are proficient in layout and design and computer-generated artwork production and have working knowledge of four-color printing process.

  • You are able to motivate and manage a team and conduct performance evaluations.
  • You able to communicate professionally and effectively with many types of people, both orally and written.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is low.

No travel is required.
