Market Segment Leader

Dewberry is currently seeking a professional management level civil engineer to lead our continued expansion in the Water Market Segment, specifically the water/wastewater conveyance infrastructure group. We are seeking a client focused, highly motivated, organized, outgoing, and team oriented individual to lead and support program management, project execution, client development and management, and business development activities on a regional and national level. The Market Segment Leader will be responsible for developing business strategy, maintaining existing client relationships, developing new clients and business, and mentoring regionally organized department level engineers and associated staff resources that deliver a broad range of projects.

With support from the enterprise, the successful candidate will be responsible for business development, client satisfaction, project delivery, technical quality, and coordinating work within an established network of offices throughout the United States. The candidate will have access to corporate technical expertise and resources in addition to a highly motivated group of engineers seeking senior leadership and guidance .

Additional details regarding the role include:
  • Lead and mentor Dewberry staff focused on pipeline work
  • Working with the Dewberry management team, lead growth of a top-tier pipeline group focused on strategic clients within the water practice; with lead responsibility for the eastern US and working with Denver team on a national level
  • Support, collaborate, and consult with existing Dewberry pipeline resources and expertise in other regions to assist in growth and delivery of technically sound work products
  • Develop, communicate, and champion a growth strategy responding to the strong market driver for pipeline rehabilitation, replacement, and trenchless technologies; with primary responsibility in the eastern US and working with Denver team on a national level
  • Serve as Dewberry's national trenchless technology leader
  • Serve as east coast pipeline subject matter expert and work collaboratively with Denver team to cover national needs
  • Stay engaged in technical delivery of infrastructure work, with a goal of maintaining a 30-70% direct utilization
  • Lead development of technical standards at a national level aimed at improving consistency of design delivery
  • Lead and oversee QA/QC process for related work products nationally
  • Support recruiting efforts aimed at growth of the pipeline group
  • Business development and client service activities consistent with growth of the group
  • Mentor staff towards a long-term, relationship-based business development approach which is based on becoming our clients' trusted advisor for pipeline engineering services
  • Exemplify Dewberry's culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork and contribution; mentor staff towards embodiment of the culture
  • Make final go/no-go decisions on related pursuits
  • Make final decisions on technical approach and delivery content for related deliverables
  • Set appropriate scopes, schedules, budgets and QA/QC procedures for related projects
  • Partner with, mentor, and lead our existing staff towards delivery excellence, ethics, integrity, and contribution for related projects and clients
  • Lead and drive growth with strategic clients in the pipeline market


Responsibilities

  • Profile water/wastewater markets and individual prospects in terms of purchaser characteristics, size, rate of growth and competitive activity.
  • Prepare action plans to implement the business development/marketing plan for water/wastewater projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of market segment marketing as it relates to water/wastewater projects.
  • Review the performance of the business development/marketing function to determine whether goals were met (e.g., hit ratios, budget to actual comparisons, ratios of marketing expenditures to size of contract and other variables).
  • Monitor the performance of actual project development from a financial, quality, and client satisfaction perspective.
  • Assist in creating opportunities for Principals and senior technical staff to be involved in client and new project development.
  • Making recommendations on projects to pursue; making final go/no go decisions.
  • Developing strategy for winning assignments from targeted prospects.
  • Make initial contact with water/wastewater clients where appropriate.
  • Strategic participation in related associations and organizations, including WEF, AWWA, ASCE, and NASSCO.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering field is required, M.S. Degree preferred.
  • MD, VA, and DC Professional Engineering license is required or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • 15+ years' experience of increasing levels of project and client responsibilities for public sector water and wastewater projects.
  • A minimum 10 years of progressive project management and technical staff supervision experience.
  • A successful track record of building water/wastewater client relationships particularly with high-profile regional clients.
  • A successful track record of managing projects, including scope, schedule and budget.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong client retention and new business development skills. Strong leadership qualities.
  • Professional network and relationships with engineering teaming partners, construction contractors, specialty subcontractors and suppliers.
