Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Lead Administrative Support Specialist for DFAS Headquarters front office administrative and correspondence activities reporting to the Executive Support Office Supervisor, Chief of Staff Office.
  • Serves as a lead liaison for all administrative and technical issues, which directly support the DFAS Director and Principal Deputy Director (DIR/PDD).
  • In conjunction with the supervisor, communicates the organization's mission, vision and values to the team of Administrative Support Specialists; ensures they are integrated into team goals, objectives, work plans, products and services.
  • Participates in the work of the team, coaches and facilitates the selection and application of problem solving techniques or work methods, and assists team in identifying solutions, priorities in and organizing to accomplish the work.
  • Distributes assignments among team members in accordance with workflow, skill level and specialization.
  • Provides expert guidance and assistant to the DIR/PDD and staff personnel regarding mission related functions and action items. Keeps the DIR/PDD informed of critical developments; providing advice regarding aspects of various problems/situations.
  • Maintains understanding of the views/policies of the DIR/PDD as well as familiarity with DFAS doctrine, staffing procedures and protocol.
  • Reviews all correspondence and other materials prepared for the information/signature of the DIR/PDD for appropriate content, coordination and format.
  • Maintains the DIR/PDD's calendars; keeping the DIR/PDD informed daily on their schedule, projected meetings, and advises as changes occur.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-12) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience is defined as providing executive-level administrative support and communicating with senior level staff and high-ranking internal and external officials.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in Federal Service.

Education

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
