This vacancy is for a Mathematical Statistician position in the Decennial Statistical Studies Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and implement production, research and evaluation projects for surveys and/or census activities.
  • Provide guidance and advice for various methodological issues related to statistical processes such as record linkage, coding, and quality control.
  • Write and run computer programs to perform production processes, analysis, research and evaluation activities.
  • Provide leadership and management to meet the goals and objectives of statistical analysis, research, and evaluation projects and programs.
  • Provide varied experience and points of view on survey and census activities
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and implementation of survey and statistical methodology for production, research, and evaluation programs.

This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position.

Relocation expenses will not be paid.

Education

Minimum Education Requirement:

Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

or

Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Requirements above, applicants must have the experience listed below.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal services.

Experience for this position includes experience designing, planning and implementing production, research, and evaluation projects for survey activities using mathematical statistical theory and statistical methodology. Experience with implementing various statistical methods such as, data editing, nonresponse reweighting, imputation procedures or disclosure avoidance. Experience with statistical computing software and routines to implement statistical methodology. Experience providing leadership while meeting program goals and objectives.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation will be reviewed to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position.   • Knowledge of statistics and survey methodology in areas such as record linkage, experimental design, sample design, survey sampling, estimation, and variance estimation.
  • Knowledge of evaluating survey and/or census processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to comprehend, and ability to communicate various statistical methods such as those used for record linkage, coding, coverage measurement, and quality control, and disclosure avoidance.
  • Ability to write and run computer programs to implement statistical methodology for production research and evaluation purpose.
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and implementation of survey and statistical methodology for production, research, and evaluation programs.
