Sr. Payroll Accountant

Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of work experience in payroll accounting?  Our client, a prestigious Non-Profit organization headquartered near Union Station in Washington, DC needs a Temp-to-Hire Senior Payroll Accountant to oversee payroll operations, develop and implement payroll strategies. 

Duties will include managing payroll processes, time reporting, and systems; ensuring coordination of payroll activities with HR; and preparing and processing payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and labor costs on a monthly basis.  Will also prepare quarterly census reports for applicable agencies as required; provide leadership and guidance to the payroll staff and reconcile multiple FEIN’s 940’s, 941’s, and W-2’s.

Must have a BS degree in accounting or business along with 5-7 years of experience in a professional accounting environment, preferably involving governmental, not-for-profit or fund accounting.  They will also accept an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A thorough knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations, particularly Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment, and Affirmative Action regulations, and IRS code pertaining to payroll is required.  Must also have proficiency with spreadsheets, database and word processing applications, such as MS Office.  Excellent verbal and written skills needed and a CPP certification is preferred.
