Policy, Research and International Affairs (PRI) serves AARP by leading the development and articulation of AARP's public policies, research and insights on the 50+ and issues that matter to them, importing best global practices, and strengthening AARP's reputation for world class expertise and thought leadership.
Summary
The Senior Advisor provides day-to-day project management and oversight as well as communications and programmatic support for AARP Public Policy Institute's Strategic Initiatives activities. Helps conceptualize, develop and manage new and ongoing initiatives. Works on a variety of matters including, but not limited to: Enterprise Issue area efforts, externally funded projects, internal process improvement, AARP cross-functional team efforts and initiatives. The Senior Advisor works closely with PPI Management to identify, develop, and produce new business opportunities to enhance the reach of PPI's work on Health, Wealth and Self. This includes developing written proposals, initiating and supporting collaborations with external entities and seeking innovative opportunities to highlight PPI's work. Assures alignment of strategic and programmatic plans with established and projected annual budgets. Uses creativity, coordination, collaboration, planning and implementation skills to deliver on project goals and objectives. Responsible for day-to-day progress on achieving program deliverables. Applicant must have demonstrated superior organizational, project management, communication and writing skills

Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day project management and oversight, communications and programmatic support for Strategic Initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Develops innovative and efficient processes to ensure that projects are within the necessary scope, delivered on-time and within the appropriate budgetary allotments.
- Helps to develop and coordinate multi-faceted work plans to support special projects and initiatives.
- Manages multiple projects to advance the goals and priorities of Strategic Initiatives, including performing project and program analysis.
- Executes financial tasks, such as contracting, invoice processing, expense reimbursement and grants reporting.
- Conceptualizes and leads internal business improvement opportunities.
- Supports Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and other senior staff with special projects as assigned.
- Staffs meetings, including developing conference reports, meeting notices and agendas and meeting materials, as requested.
- Develops and maintains relationships with functional areas throughout AARP (i.e. communications staff, government affairs, AARP Foundation), external partners and key stakeholders.
- Communicates with key stakeholders, internal and external to AARP, and provides updates on activities as appropriate.
- Works with external partners and related contacts, including but not limited to, arranging follow-up conference calls, web conferences, meetings and events.
- Serves as a central point of contact for project communication, data collection and reporting as needed.
- Monitors and tracks time-sensitive projects and events to ensure timely and accurate completion
Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor's degree and a minimum of Six (6) years of experience.
- Master's degree in business, management or related field preferred
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Proven project oversight and management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels and across multiple departments.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Social Media and project management tools.
