Requirements

Associate Director of Admissions for Master of Science in Foreign Service - Walsh School of Foreign Service

The Associate Director of Admissions works closely with the Director of Admissions to support all Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) admissions activities, including recruitment, applicant file review and presentation to admissions committee, extraction and recording of applicant data, events, and program marketing. S/he works closely with the MSFS admissions committee and admissions colleagues at The School of Foreign Service and Georgetown University. Reporting to the MSFS Director of Admissions, the Associate Director of Admissions has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Advising
  • Leads biweekly small group information sessions and conducts individual appointments to advise prospective students.
  • Travels domestically and internationally to present and recruit at graduate school fairs.
  • Manages all correspondence with applicants, particularly those with special concerns.
  • Fosters relationships between prospective students and current students/alumni.
  • Provides initial counseling to entering classes.
  • Ensures compliance with MSFS policies regarding conditional admissions.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and discretion.


Marketing
  • Works closely with the Director of Admissions to design and implement an annual marketing strategy that heightens MSFS visibility among its competitors, promotes MSFS, and provides a positive impression of Georgetown.
  • Assists in managing the Admissions Committee of 30+ faculty, alumni, staff, and students.
  • Contributes to recruitment tasks such as making decisions on colleges/universities/regions to visit as well as arranging panels for the Group of Four (Columbia, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and Tufts).
  • Organizes and edits print and electronic mailings for distribution to prospects, admits, and enrolling students as well as donors, alumni, and faculty.
  • Collaborates on and makes updates to website content.


Administrative
  • Arranges logistics for admissions travel and publications.
  • Liaises with other university offices as needed (such as GSAS, GSFS, OSFS, OIP, OSA, and Off-Campus Housing).
  • Supervises several graduate/undergraduate student workers.
  • Ensures timely response to emails (MSFS receives 10,000+ per year), phone calls, and requests for information.


Special Events
  • Arranges and supervises logistics for information sessions, class visits, and online chats.
  • Serves as lead organizer for yield events that include the admitted student phone-a-thon and the annual open house for admitted students.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred
  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, recruiting, or closely related field
  • Familiarity with admissions software including ApplyYourself, Banner, Cognos, and Slate
  • Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Knowledge of international affairs and one or more foreign languages preferred
