As a Senior Scientist based in Columbia, Maryland, you will play a pivotal role in helping to develop scientific capabilities that can make a positive impact in our world. Main Duties and Responsibilities * The Senior Scientist has responsibility for all stages of formulation development in support of biologics portfolio with an emphasis on agriculture. * The position entails conducting lab-based scientific research and development projects in collaboration with external partners and clients through execution of formulations development and characterization studies. * The Senior Scientist drives toward achieving technical objectives through a better understanding of molecular and biological stabilization mechanisms that lead to more effective formulations to stabilize, protect, and deliver bioactives with an emphasis on ag microbials. * The Senior Scientist collaborates in a flat, matrixed organization focused on early-to-late stage formulations, process, and analytical method development, manufacturing scaleup, and regulatory issues to deliver against technical and business objectives. Skills, Knowledge, and Experience * Expertise in formulations science, chemistry, and/or engineering. * Expertise in agricultural formulations, including delivery systems such as seed treatment, is a significant plus. * Ability to design and investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential problems. * Ability to plan and execute highly-effective and productive laboratory research programs. * Broad knowledge of state-of-the art scientific principles, theories, characterization, control strategies, and regulatory policies and guidelines. * Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, strategic planning, and independent thought. * Demonstrated ability to initiate, direct, and execute science-based research projects across all stages of R&D and participate in, or lead the development of, technology strategy. * Proficient communication skills required for interfacing with team members, external collaborators, and potential customers. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple individuals and groups on technical projects. Education * Senior Scientist: BS or MS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, applied sciences, or related field with a minimum of 12 years of experience, or PhD with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
