ECS is seeking a Mission Systems Engineer to work in our Silver Spring, MD office. Job Description: Candidate will install, configure, and test equipment and run cable/power/etc to associated work stations and racks for 1) navigational systems, 2) acoustic systems, 3) communications systems, 4) oceanographic/atmospheric instruments, 5) local area network, or 6) other complex (non-computer, using embedded microprocessor control and firmware) electronic systems. This responsibility will also include the installation, maintenance, alignment, and repair of wind speed, direction, precipitation, and atmospheric pressure sensors as well as the setup, installation, maintenance and repair of underwater sensors and marine electronics equipment. Candidate will be required to quickly learn and adapt to evolving technology and IT infrastructure changes and participate in discussions for "out of the box" solutions. Candidate will use their basic analytical and problem-solving skills along with their background in troubleshooting and hardware/software diagnostics to efficiently maintain/implement shipboard equipment/systems. Candidate will need to work in industrial, shipboard and underway environments as well as effectively coordinate and facilitate solutions with varying personalities/opinions. Candidate will support electronics and IT activities using basic knowledge of cyber security processes and/or the ability to research, understand and apply cyber security principles. This position my require extensive travel during heightened operations and/or to support time sensitive/critical evolutions. Other activities may include:Responsible for the overall maintenance of mission equipment (Radars, Sonars, Sounders, Transducers, servers, UPSs, etc.) on board NOAA vessels.Responsible for implementation and strict adherence to all relevant OMAO/MACC policies and guidanceResponsible for development of maintenance plans for mission equipment.Responsible for management of installation/replacement/upgrade of mission equipment and shipboard electronic infrastructure.Be the primary POC for shipboard Electronics Technicians (ETs) for technical and management requirements.Be the primary POC for any mission system requirement for several NOAA Ships including interfacing with ship's crew and OEM representatives.Develop SOWs for industrial contractors to install/replace/repair/maintain/troubleshoot mission equipment during dockside or drydock availabilities.Perform and assist in a variety of routine and specific tasks for IT projects and related support services.Support general data collection and management as it applies to oceanographic environmentsExample equipment/systems includes:RM Young Air-Temp/Rel-Humidity, wind sensors, barometers, rain gauges, etc.Eppley Radiation Sensors (Short-wave and Long-wave)Kongsberg ES60/80 Scientific Sounder (12KHz, 38/200 KHz)Kongsberg EK60/80 Fisheries Sounder (18KHz, 38KHz, 70KHz, 120KHz, 200KHz, 333KHz)Kongsberg ME/MS-70 Fisheries Multibeam SonarKongsberg EM-series Hydrographic Multibeam SonarSurface Sound Velocity Sensor (primarily Teledyne-Reson SVP70/71)AML-Oceanographic Moving Vessel Profiler (MVP)Applanix POS/MV-320 Position and Orientation SystemTeledyne-RDI Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP)Seabird SBE-9+ Over-the-side Ocean Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) Profiling SystemOnboard Seabird equipment (SBE-11+ Deck Unit, SBE-21 CTD, SBE-38 Ext.
