System Technician As a System Technician, you will maintain, service and repair hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) broadband communication network and components to keep our customers connected to the digital world. What You Will Do: We take pride in being industry leaders when it comes to our customer's experiences. Our System Technicians are a key piece to this equation by ensuring our system is always performing at its best. You will trouble-shoot and repair problems in HFC networks by testing, balancing, aligning and adjusting components, cables and equipment used to amplify and process signals in both directions (Downstream and return path) including system sweep. You will perform maintenance, testing and repair on HFC network power supplies as well as plant serviceability surveys. You will splice and activate fiber optic cables, nodes, transmitters and receivers, including emergency fiber restoration. You will participate in an on-call rotation You will identify and report all incidents of non-compliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA and WOW standards) You will assure system security by following company procedures You will be responsible for motor vehicle per company policy including equipment & tool inventory, vehicle security and vehicle maintenance What We Look For: Be able to present technical information to a non-technical audience in a friendly and professional way. Have the ability to work independently as well as with a team. Able to measure distances using tapes and other measuring devices as well as using assigned test equipment including but not limited to signal level meter (SLM), leakage detector, volt ohm meter, sweep receiver, underground locator and TDR Able to prioritize and organize assignments and responsibilities while accurately maintaining records, logs, reports, work orders, etc. Able to handle customer concerns and time-critical issues Able to read street maps and system design prints Able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends and on-call shifts Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record Education/Experience: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Proven knowledge of electronics and the operation of an HFC network are required. Two to four years of experience and related associates degree (or equivalent in training and experience) is preferred. Physical Demands/Working Conditions: We know this position can be tough, but you get to enjoy the outdoors and experience many different weather conditions while travelling over different terrains and more than likely checking out those crawlspaces and attics in customer's homes. You can expect to be on your feet for the majority of the working day, and climbing up and down 28" ladders. Carry and operate both power and hand tools. Ability to perform work in elevated places (ie, roofs and utility poles) and work safely around power lines and electrical equipment. Work with small components and differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires. Ability to move, crawl, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, and grasp. Ability to lift up to 90 pounds on a relatively consistent basis. Work in environments that may contain dust, dirt, noise, insects and cleaning solutions. Guess what you might see in these spaces?
