Summary

These positions are located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), within multiple Institutes/Centers or the Office of the Director. Join one of the 27 Institutes and Centers within the NIH. As an intramural Physician, you will be responsible for administering clinical, basic and independent research programs; analyzing, evaluating and generating scientific and clinical data; and conceptualizing new research direction and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Administer clinical and basic research projects
  • Plan, organize, and direct research programs involving direct patient care using applied and/or basic research
  • Review, analyze, and investigate clinical trails, protocols, and the treatment of patients
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret scientific and clinical data to prepare papers for publication and presentation
  • Conceptualize new research direction and projects
  • Create drug development plans, including Phase I, II and III clinical trials
  • Keep abreast of scientific and clinical developments through review of literature and attending professional meetings, conferences, and symposia

Qualifications

License:
Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Basic Requirements:

Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre-medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).]

AND

Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.

To Qualify at the GS-14 Grade Level:

In order to qualify at the GS-14 level, the applicant must possess 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled OR equivalent experience and training.
