Responsibilities

  • Utilize your medical expertise to administer extramural research grants in a major program area.
  • Actively collaborates in the planning, development, implementation and administration of research and training programs, projects, and contracts, conferences and workshops.
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.
  • Administers clinical and basic research projects, including clinical trials, supported by the assigned organization.
  • Takes administrative measures to achieve program goals through contacts with researchers and in administration of grant applications and ongoing projects, and communicates program goals in response to inquiries.
  • Evaluates the recommendations of peer review groups.
  • Works closely with the principal investigator and the awardee institutions as an organizational representative.
  • Serves as a medical liaison between the Institute/Center and research working groups.
  • Provide technical leadership to Extramural research efforts in the design and conduct of research.

Qualifications

Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or Equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathways certificate for Americans who completed pre-medical education in the Unites States and graduate education in a foreign country).]

AND

Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.

  • Physician's Comparability Allowance of up to $30,000 per annum may be paid based on the the selected physician's assignment, qualifications, experience, and duration of a negotiated service agreement.
