Senior Oracle DBA (some DB2) Location - Washington, DC (by Union Station) Long term contract Database Administrator Performance Tuning Specialist role is to evaluate, monitor, troubleshoot and implement performance tuning strategies, methodologies and techniques to improve and maintain databases for a large data warehouse while ensuring high levels of data availability and performance. Typical tasks for this position include Analyze current environments and workloads to identify performance bottlenecks in reports and ETLs Create solutions and plans for short term and long-term improvements Performance tune SQL queries generated from Informatica, OBIEE in OBIA and EBS using Oracle native tools (explain plan, tkprof, 100 events, AWR, SQLT, RDA) Optimize database, exadata, Informatica and OBIEE configuration parameters Refine and optimize infrastructure architecture and create architectural prototypes as required Identify partitioning keys and partition tables and indexes Participate with responsibility and accountability in design sessions for new projects to understand underlying design and create performant solutions Create programs to automate tasks such as identifying and remediating fragmentationchained rows, identifying and reporting change in query plan etc. Migrate changes following established change management processes Create validations and test cases to test solutions for performance, regression and integrity Liaison with Oracle product and hosting provider on a day to day basis to troubleshoot and resolve issues Work with developers and functional resources to understand underlying requirements to design for performance Create review and maintain architecture documentation Demonstrate detailed analysis, problem solving skills and a strong drive to continuously improve the current environment Handle multiple tasks and adapt to a constantly changing environment Train, instruct, and mentor new team members Required skills and experience 7+ years IT experience 3-4 years experience with Oracle database configurations, structures and architectures, principles, and tuning practices. Have a bigger picturesolution architecture mindset to look at issues Hands on experience in handling Oracle databases over 10TB in size on Oracle Supercluster and Exadata platforms Excellent knowledge of in-memory processing, storage architecture and database concepts such as indexing, partitioning, stats gathering, parallel processing and multithreading techniques, performing analysis for performance issues, debugging wait events, resolving errors, digging beneath the surface to debug issues that may exhibit symptoms but not error messages Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, and relational and dimensional data modelling ability Hands on experience in Performance Tuning of sources, targets, transformations and sessions. Good communication skills, systematic approach, and quick adaptability to new technologies and new working environment. Ability to translate ideas into work plans Self-starter with ability to work independently and take initiative Desired SkillsCertification Oracle DBA Professional certification Experience designing, developing, testing or maintaining applications and databases as part of a larger IT team Knowledge of Oracle Data Administration Console (Optional) Knowledge of CPU architectures, distributed file systems and Big Data technologies
