Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Security Officer, Physical Security Division. The incumbent will serve as a Security Assistant providing the full range of administrative, clerical, and technical support to the Division. Incumbent will assists Physical Security Specialists in executing security regulations, policies, and procedures; issuing employee, contractor, visitor badges, and Personal Identification Verification (PIV) credentials for civilian and contractor personnel.

Responsibilities

As a Security Assistant, GS-0086-6/7/8, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
  • Maintains knowledge of security regulations, policies, procedures, methods and objectives of security programs.
  • Assists with issuance of employee, contractor, temporary visitor, proximity badges/passes, credentials, and Personal Identification Verification for EOP civilian and contractor personnel.
  • Responsible for administering and monitoring the performance of installation access processes to include: criminal background checks, biometric data collections, personal identification verification credentials, and visitor control systems.
  • Performs physical security inspections; assists with minor corrective actions; and coordinate follow-up reports of physical security inspections and surveys.
  • Serves as assistant to Security Manager; assists with managing automated and manual facilities access to include key and identification badge control.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Requirements: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

In order to qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must meet the specialized experience listed below:
Applicants must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector: providing administrative and clerical support to management officials; utilizing various automated database systems to prepare and issue badges/credentials for civilian and contractor personnel; operating and monitoring the performance and functionality of electronic security and alarm systems; performing physical security inspections and conducting follow-up reports of inspections and surveys.

In order to qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must meet the specialized experience listed below:
Applicants must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector: providing administrative and clerical support to management officials; utilizing various automated database systems to prepare and issue badges/credentials for civilian and contractor personnel; operating and monitoring the performance and functionality of electronic security and alarm systems; performing physical security inspections and conducting follow-up reports of inspections and surveys.

In order to qualify at the GS-08 level, applicants must meet the specialized experience listed below:
Applicants must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector: providing administrative and clerical support to management officials; utilizing various automated database systems to prepare and issue badges/credentials for civilian and contractor personnel; operating and monitoring the performance and functionality of electronic security and alarm systems; performing physical security inspections and conducting follow-up reports of inspections and surveys.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
