You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the WELDING ENGINEERING DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

• You will ensure concepts/work practices and philosophy of reactor plant work are fully implemented.
• You will exercise controls of those factors relating to the quality of the Nondestructive Testing Program.
• You will provide information, instruction, technical and nondestructive testing guidance.
• You will develop and implement quality control procedures and review technical procedures.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Examiner certification, certified by NAVSEA.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience assisting with audits, investigations, and analyses related to nondestructive testing.
• Experience implementing production methods, techniques, and processes required to manufacture and assure product quality of ship structures, components, machinery, material and systems.
• Experience preparing plans and procedures to accomplish nuclear and non-nuclear work.
• Experience participating in projects relating to overhaul, repair, and testing of nuclear reactor plant systems and components.
• Experience assisting with the execution of nondestructive testing methods which include: visual/dimensional, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography, eddy current or ultrasonic testing methods.

You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Examiner certification, certified by NAVSEA. This certification is performed in accordance with the requirements specified in NAVSEA 250-1500-1, MIL-STD-2132 and NSTR-99 for nuclear work and MIL-STD-271 for non-nuclear work.

This position requires exposure to high noise levels.

If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
