Responsibilities

  • DUTIES FOR ENTRY LEVEL: This is a developmental assignment to Target position Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level-4), CY-1702-02, Job #19889.
  • Serves as a Child and Youth Program Assistant (CYPA) in one or more CYS programs. Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Assists in providing and leading planned activities for program participants.
  • Helps establish a program environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule.
  • DUTIES FOR SKILL LEVEL: In addition to the responsibilities performed as a CYPA (Entry Level)
  • Incumbent will assists children and youth with special projects and homework. Participates in conferences with parents and staff.
  • Reviews and implements daily schedules and activity plans to ensure age/stage appropriateness. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.
  • DUTIES FOR TARGET LEVEL: In addition to the responsibilities performed as a CYPA (Entry and Skill Levels)
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth. Implements activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  • Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth and adults.
  • Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule. Assists children and youth with special projects, homework and life skills.
  • Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements. Reviews, provides input to, and implements schedules and activity plans.
  • Demonstrates, instructs, leads and facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.

  • Successfully complete all required background checks to include a health screening. An annual health screening will be required throughout employment. All local background checks will be re-verified every 5 years.
  • Willing to work the work schedule specific for the assigned CYS program.
  • Must provide copy of High School Diploma and/or official transcripts prior to entrance to duty date.
  • Appointment is subject to completion of a favorable background checks/investigation to determine suitability for this position.
  • Incumbent is legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect. All local background checks will be re-verified every 5 years.
  • Travel to on and off post locations may be required.
  • Schedule may include irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends.


Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for each position level are as follows:

ENTRY LEVEL:
Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal). Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

SKILL LEVEL:
Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).

In addition to the above, candidate must possess: three (3) months experience working in a group program with children and/or youth plus Army or other military service Entry Level Training as evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion.
OR
Six months experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus nine (9) semester hours of college credit with course content directly related to the age group which assigned, for example: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education.

TARGET LEVEL:
Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

In addition, candidate must possess 18 months of experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus an associate's degree or least 60 semester hours of college credit which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned, for example: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education.
OR
1. A bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours which included a major course or study (24 semester hours) with content as indicated above.
2. Possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned. Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Military School Age Credential, Army Youth Practicum, or other nationally recognized Youth Development Credential.

Additional information

Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour workweek. Hourly range for Entry is $13.71 to $16.33; Skill is $15.10 to $18.40; and Target $16.95 to $20.66. **Salary rate will be determined based on grade level qualified**
