Learn more atwww.nexstar.tv.EEO Statement:Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Veterans/DisabledPosition SummaryThe Chief Engineer oversees the day to day operations of the Engineering Department and is responsible for the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the station.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWDVM TV 25, the Independent News Leader in the Washington, DC-Hagerstown, MD DMA, has an opening for a Chief Engineer. Five or more years of previous leadership and television management experience are preferred. Candidate must have a strong understanding of live news broadcast processes and procedures and significant experience working in a news producing, live television environment. Candidate must be well organized, detail oriented and possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). In addition to working well independently, must also work well as part of a team. Being a 24/7 broadcast facility, this position may require working some evenings, overnights or weekends. A valid drivers' license and an excellent driving record is required. The successful candidate should have IT Certification. A thorough knowledge of Windows 7/8/10/2012 and 2016 server & workstation a must. A working knowledge of fiber optic distribution systems as well as LAN/WAN/VPN, Video over IP and VOIP technologies is important. Candidate must be able to read technical drawings/ documentation. Candidate must have a strong understanding and ability in creating live news broadcasts.Manages all aspects of the Engineering DepartmentPlans and manages staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the Engineering DepartmentMakes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employeesMaintains all broadcast technology and equipment for the stationEnsures station compliance with FCC rules and regulations, as well as all local, state and federal regulations applicable to the stationWorks with corporate leadership to develop and implement new technologies and technical infrastructure for the stationManages the information technology staff and systemAssigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being metWorks with corporate leadership to manage engineering and technology capital projects to the established budgetsPerforms other duties as assigned Requirements & Skills: Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenValid driver's license with an acceptable driving recordMinimum five years' experience with digital electronics systems in a television broadcasting environment, with at least three year's experience in a leadership roleExperience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performanceExperience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve themAbility to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skillsProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentStrong PC/MS Office experienceExperience with fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systemsExperience with digital transmitters, microwave equipment, and other broadcast-related equipmentSignificant experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology systems.Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Physical Demands & Work Environment:The Chief Engineer must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Chief Engineer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
