About the Job:The Project Director (PD) is responsible for ensuring the overall quality of Connexus projects from concept to completion including client relationships, project management and the technical quality of all outcomes and deliverables. While responsible for ensuring overall project success, the Project Director will rely on a Project Manager and/or Project Associate for project support, including budget tracking, invoicing and administration of contracts, as well as a technical staff that could include an in-house technical lead, subcontractors and consultants. As a dynamic small company, Connexus has a wide range of responsibilities with a limited staff, making it important for Project Directors to be flexible with their work and wear multiple hats taking on new business, technical and administrative roles as needed. Project Directors may manage multiple projects with a single client making it important to provide continuity between programs and ensure the overall satisfaction of the client with Connexus' work, while seeking opportunities to expand our portfolio. Project Directors need to be leaders in both project management and technical areas of importance to Connexus and its clients.Tasks and Responsibilities: Oversee and be ultimately responsible for insuring all contractual and financial transactions with clients are compliant with all rules and regulations of contracts, prompting Project Managers and Associates to provide regular contractual updates on at least a monthly basis.Ensure the overall technical quality of all deliverables and maintain constant dialogue with clients to ensure consultants, subcontractors and in-house technical staff are technically in line with the client's needs.Be responsible for building and managing project teams including subcontractors, consultants and long-termers. This will include interviewing, approving daily rates and ensuring that project teams meet all technical requirements of clients and are compatible for productive working relationships.Negotiate and approve final contracts with clients, ensuring the project's scope of work is in sync with its budget and timeframe for the work to be completed.Negotiate Scopes of Work (SOW) and modifications to SOW, level of effort (LOE), and budgets with clients.Provide guidance and approvals for Project Managers regarding all inflows and outflows of projects according to the Connexus RACI Matrix and client specifications.Review project financial projections and budgets with Project Managers and/or Associates to ensure projects are always in line to complete objectives on time and at budget.Take on technical assignments as needed for projects and in line with the Project Directors technical area of expertise.Support new business development as needed, including identifying new business opportunities, recruiting key personnel, and drafting proposal budgets, overseeing proposal process and providing technical input as needed for Connexus proposals.Be available to attend conferences, industry events and client meetings to continue to develop technical skills, build client relationships and develop new business opportunities for Connexus.Supervise and provide guidance to Project Managers and Project Associates; filling in as needed to maintain project momentum.Qualifications:Master's degree in relevant field of business, finance, economics or related fieldAt least ten years of relevant professional experienceProject management experience (preferably USAID), overseeing both technical and administrative aspects of projectsAbility to oversee and be accountable for multiple projects in multiple locations including local and international staff with a proven ability to complete project objectives on time and at budgetStrong oral and written communication and presentation skills, tailored to diverse audiences with an already developed network of relevant client relationships to Connexus' work with both the public and private sectorsA well-developed technical background in an area of development relevant to Connexus' client needs, with experience working on both public and private sector projects preferred.Leadership/interpersonal skills and ability to promote buy-in, successfully communicate with a range of stakeholders, and facilitate a productive team environmentComfortable in a small business environment where priorities can change quickly and able to pick up the slack wherever neededExperience living/working in developing countriesFluent in English, with advanced Spanish or French foreign language skills desiredWillingness to travel to developing countriesA proven commitment to market led development
