Director, Environmental Policy with CropLife America in Washington DC Posted on January 23, 2015 Type of position Position Summary: Responsible for the development, implementation and management of effective science and regulatory policy strategies on environmental issues in support of CropLife America's objectives, including matters that impact both pesticides and crop technology products, with the objective of minimizing unnecessary or unjustified impacts on the manufacture, formulation, and distribution of registered uses of crop protection products. Location Washington DC Salary Open Closing date of competition April 1, 2015 Date position available February 1, 2015 Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the ADA, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Monitor, review and analyze all relevant environmental regulatory initiatives, including the identification of emerging policy issues, to determine potential impacts on the crop protection industry and communicate threat to CLA Leadership and members. + Includes existing and emerging federal environmental regulations under Federal Insecticide Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and others as appropriate. * Actively lead and participate on multi-disciplinary teams to develop strategic plans addressing current and emerging environmental issues. * Propose and execute strategic approaches for resolution of environmental issues and implement strategies. + Initiate and maintain relationships and effectively work with key agencies. + Ensure policy issues are acted upon in the form of agency discussion or public comments. + Seek and coordinate member assistance to identify, apply and communicate sound scientific principals to mitigate mis-information and unscientific interpretations of pesticide issues. * Initiate and maintain relationships with, provide leadership for and effectively work with key stakeholders and allied organizations to address specific issues of importance to CropLife America, including the ability to solicit commitments from such organizations. * Provide organizational and technical support of association committees, work groups, and issue management teams. * Prepare effective advocacy materials including background papers, issue briefs, talking points, amendments, correspondence, and testimony for use by CropLife America representatives and allied organizations. * Ensure effective communication with CropLife America members and association staff on status of relevant science and regulatory policy initiatives. * Establish and maintain contact with key career regulatory officials important to achievement of CropLife America's objectives. Includes familiarity with data development required to support registration and registration review of pesticide products. * Should be skilled at discussing scientific issues with government officials and other stakeholders. * Ability to draft comprehensive comments in response to regulatory initiatives on behalf of the crop technology industry. * In addition, working knowledge of one or more of the following desired: + business aspects of data and patent protection. + provisions of primary statutes and regulations governing the crop protection industry. + Legislative and regulatory process of relevant bodies. Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure * An advanced degree strongly preferred in environmental or agricultural sciences with emphasis on either chemistry, toxicology, pharmacology, risk assessment, or environmental monitoring. * Seven to ten years of experience in agricultural environmental science and(or) regulatory affairs. Language Skills * Must have fluency and strong command of the English language.
