Responsibilities

Formulate and conduct electrical and electro-optical measurements on novel thin film semiconductor devices including organic and two-dimensional materials. Fabricate novel test structures suitable for probing the fundamental electrical and optical properties such as charge and spin injection and transport, lifetime, density, and recombination kinetics of charges and excitons, as a function of voltage, temperature, light, and magnetic field bias; make contacts with NIST stakeholders and leading scientists to identify the measurement needs and opportunities in these fields through meetings, workshops, personnel requests, networking, scientific collaborations; specify, design, procure, and/or assemble a world-class experimental facility suitable for addressing these measurement needs; develop and lead one or more projects

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

In addition to the basic requirements applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 (ZP-III at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience working in the area of electronic transport, optical properties, spin-related phenomena and contact interfaces of organic semiconductors.



Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

A one to three year probationary period may be required.
