Director of Educational Technologies, Academic Systems - University Information Services

The Director of Educational Technologies is responsible for oversight and strategy of the University's core enterprise scholarly systems. S/he may assume the Principal Technologist's responsibilities in his/her absence for all matters related to the Principal Technologist's responsibilities. The Director of Educational Technologies provides leadership and vision for the direction, support, development and implementation of scholarly systems.

A key duties of the Director of Educational Technologies include but is not limited to:
  • Alignments scholarly systems with the missions of the university and its constituents.
  • Oversees the research, design, and implementation of new scholarly systems and system enhancements based on University needs and changing technologies.
  • Liaises with the leadership of key areas within the University, as well as with vendors and peer institutions as appropriate.
  • Developments and deploys appropriate information technology practices for security, change management, project management and business recovery planning.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with relevant course work in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field(s)
  • Minimum ten years of relevant technology management experience
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of scholarly systems, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience working in a team environment
  • Must demonstrate ability to ensure quality of work force through the development and implementation of standards and documentation as well as professional development plans
  • Experience in higher education or related industry required
  • Must demonstrate strong project/personnel management and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the following desired: client/server, distributed processing, project management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in team building and staff management experience
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and execute information systems project plans that meet requirements on time and under budget
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and effectively managing project budgets
  • Significant experience with web-based technologies including HTML, JavaScript, XML
  • At least 5 years' experience in the development of applications in Unix or Windows environments using advanced programming languages (Java, C, PERL)


Preferred qualifications
  • Graduate degree
  • Significant prior experience with Pedagogical systems such as Course or Learning Management systems, digital library initiatives, or experience in an academic environment
  • Experience in working on "cutting edge" projects to service 'enterprise' customers strongly
  • PMP Certification or equivalent experience
