Summary

AARP Maryland is seeking a Communications Intern based in our downtown Baltimore office. This is a paid internship and the duration is March 2020 - December 2020.
Responsibilities

As a Communications Intern, you will be asked to:
  • Monitor and improve our engagement on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Write blog posts, advertising copy and social media postings.
  • Assist with traditional media relations activities, such as media pitching, issue research, and press events.
  • Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, and pitch letters.
  • Assist with development of advertising materials and placement of media buys.
  • Provide photography and videography support for AARP Maryland events.
Requirements

You must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; be in good academic standing; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors or rising first or second year graduate students. AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.

We are looking for a candidate who is digital/social media savvy and is also interested in honing their traditional communications/media relations skills with one of the nation's largest advocacy organizations. Applicant should be able to demonstrate strong writing skills for both traditional and social media as well as moderate video editing skills. Graphic design skills a plus.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications, as well as Facebook and Twitter is required. Experience in iMovie and Canva is desirable..
