Summary

The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is within the local commuting area of Fort Myer, VA. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

This position is located at the Business Recreation Division, Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall

This is a Nonappropriated Fund (NAF) Flexible (Flex) position with no guaranteed hours and does NOT include Benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training.
  • Informs swimmers of safety/health/admission rules and procedures.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position
  • A one year probationary period may be required
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • Completed and signed DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI).
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • All required certifications must be kept current.
  • A Health Assessment is required.
  • Fifteen(15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).


Qualifications

A copy of your current certifications is required at the time of application.

Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS); American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross"Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

HOWEVER, THE FIRST CUT-OFF DATE FOR ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES WHO SUBMITTED ALL REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS WILL BE FEBRUARY 22, 2018, WITH SUBSEQUENT CUT-OFF DATES EVERY 2 WEEKS UNTIL ALL POSITIONS ARE FILLED. ONCE SELECTIONS ARE MADE, THIS ANNOUNCEMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE.

Applicants will be referred to selecting officials per bi-weekly cut-off date(s): 22 February; 8 and 22 March; 5 and 19 April; 3, 17 and 31 May, and 14 June. The final referral list will be issued on July 1, 2019.
