The incumbent reports directly to the Chief of Staff and should possess excellent managerial and leadership skills, be knowledgeable and proficient with VA Performance Measures including outpatient clinic access and hospital flow, Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) and Patient Centered Care transformational efforts.

Responsibilities

-Participates in the development and implementation of Medical Center policy affecting patient care, treatment and services. This involves collaborating with colleagues in developing , implementing , and evaluating philosophy, objectives , policies, and standards essential for delivering optimal care to patients, and providing excellent customer service.
-The incumbent promotes coordination and support of clinical care by evaluating current and potential patient needs, clinical workloads, resources, and special programs.
-Links clinical improvements to operation efficiency for the service.
-The intensity, activity, and broad program mission generates numerous, complex problems which require the Service Chief to have outstanding skills and ability in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all programs which effect a positive impact on the interdisciplinary service, the interdisciplinary professional and the health care delivery system.
-Collaborates with executive leadership, managerial and clinical leaders in formulating local Medical Center Policy, resource planning for manpower, equipment and space.
-Monitors measured outcomes and works collaboratively with Medical Center Management to meet mutual program goals and identifies long and short-range needs to formulate proposals for executive level management consideration.
-Initiates actions on a continuing basis for progressive improvement of the service delivery that involves preparing and justifying funding requests for the service and maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.
-Formulates and recommends the interdisciplinary service policies and establishes and implements administrative activities, techniques, procedures, and methods to assure sound, meaningful, and practical clinical program consistency in keeping with current and advanced concepts and objectives of the Medical Center.
-Defines the requirements, functions, and scope of the service to other services. Collaboratively involved with other service management and/or interdisciplinary teams in discussions of proposed new and/or revised service initiatives. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings on a regular basis.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday-8:00AM-4:30PM (Weekends, evenings and Holidays as needed)

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements at the time of selection.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Board Certification is HIGHLY preferred.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires: sitting, walking, standing, and bending. Work requires daily trips from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
