Responsibilities

Serves as the Assistant Food Service Administrator for Food Services Section, Health Services Division, Central Office, Washington, D.C.

Assists in developing policies and directing administrative operations for the food services throughout the Bureau of Prisons.

Assist in establishing policy issuances and administrative directives for food services Bureau-wide.

Provides guidance in regards to subsistence procurement, ration allowances, issue control, preparation techniques and service, operational economies, sanitation standards, major equipment programming, and all other policies relative to food operations.

Assist in maintaining the BOP's Food services Manuals, to include revision of policies and the writing of additional policies based on need.

Conducts periodic on-site reviews of institutional service operations to ensure that inmates are receiving not only a balanced diet, but the essential elements necessary to sustain health.

Assist in conducting reviews of quarterly and monthly reports submitted by institutions, and analyzes such reports from objective of securing policy adherence and program efficiency.

Furnishes technical information with respect to new facility and equipment needs to the Bureau's Planning and Development Division, such as maximum security penitentiary, new correctional institutions and camps, and renovation projects designed to up-grade existing outmoded plant facilities.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education:

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

OR

Experience:

You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

Such experience must have demonstrated:
  • Experience in preparing reports outlining program changes and recommendations to improve managerial efficiency, food preparation techniques, service, economies and introduction of new product innovations.
  • Experience in providing guidance in regards to subsistence procurement, ration allowances, issue control, preparation techniques and service, operational economies, sanitation standards, major equipment programming, and all other policies relative to food service operations.
  • Experience in conducting onsite reviews of institutional food service operations to ensure that inmates are receiving a balanced diet.
  • Experience in responding to all food related congressional, commercial and individual correspondence including responding to all BP-10 food observations.

This position IS NOT included in the bargaining unit.

The representative rate for this position is $109,088 per annum ($52.27 per hour).

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
