Summary

Join the team! This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Office of International Programs. The Office conducts activities and creates strategies aimed at ensuring greater import compliance with U.S. product safety requirements. A key emphasis of this program is encouraging foreign manufacturers to establish product safety systems as an integral part of manufacturing.

Responsibilities

The position requires contact with high-level foreign government and U.S. agency officials; therefore, communication and constituent service skills must be excellent. You will be working in a small agency with limited resources so this will require creativity and unique skills to implement directives and programs. Because this program cuts across all hazard types and complements all other CPSC activities, you will be working directly with the agency's program directors on international initiatives and efforts to establish and develop stronger working relationships with foreign government product safety authorities, relevant international bodies, the regulated business community, voluntary standards organizations, and other U.S. federal agencies. The successful applicant will analyzes statistical, economic, trade and regulatory compliance data to identify trends and other indicators for office planning and activity prioritization; write clear and authoritative reports for assigned projects using the information from these and other analyses; and research and execute comprehensive plans to enable cooperation and coordination between CPSC and foreign stakeholders.

Qualifications

Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-09: 1) Assist in researches and reports on foreign commercial business regulations and voluntary standards; 2) Manage financial plans and expenditures; 3) Assist with logistics for foreign visitors.

Proficiency in French, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese preferred.

GS-9: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-7.
