Job Announcement

Manages the department's Body Safety Education Program as a part of the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Services. Delivers body safety curriculum throughout the county to school-aged children and their parents. Recruits, interviews, conducts background checks, assesses, and trains applicants who desire to be a volunteer facilitator with the program. Matches and schedules volunteers to teach the curriculum. Supports volunteers and supervises their work. Establishes and maintains partnerships with county agencies, businesses, faith-based organizations, and the community. Participates in special events to publicize and promote public education activities. Collects and maintains data on national, state, and local sexual abuse trends to help target community intervention activities. Tracks and evaluates program outcomes. Maintains communication and sustains working relationships with volunteers and partners. Works collaboratively with staff from the other Children Youth and Families programs. Uses automated technology to maintain client data, records, and correspondence. Evaluates and updates program policies and procedures to ensure adherence to best practice. Tracks program expenditures. Works from the department's Fairfax office. Position requires regular travel throughout Fairfax County as well as occasional evening and weekend hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include:
  • Knowledge of child development .
  • Experience working with groups of children and/or adults.
  • Experience with community organization or establishing community partnerships.
  • Experience working with victims of sexual abuse, bullying or inappropriate physical touch.
  • Strong planning, writing and critical thinking skills.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus three years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license required upon hire.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Appointee must complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers.
  • Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in social work (MSW) or closely related filed.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in facilitating classes for children or parents.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • At least two years of experience managing, recruiting, onboarding, and training volunteers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time. Sufficiently mobile to attend meeting and make presentations outside the office. Ability to use automated technology. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
