The National Defense University (NDU) is recruiting for faculty members to conduct education and research in the field of national resource strategy

Responsibilities

Prepares and conducts graduate-level seminar instruction in the interdisciplinary ES academic program, which is focused on national security and resourcing strategy. Applies teaching methods that stimulate student engagement through faculty-facilitated seminar discussion and experiential learning.

Participates in the planning, development, upgrade, and continuous improvement and integration of the ES program, curriculum, and courses. Developes and executes assigned core courses, to include syllabus creation, student assessments, and leading faculty preparation as well as curriculum integration responsibilities with other portions of the ES.

Conducts research on topics of academic interest relevant to the analysis of the national innovation base and (defense) industrial base and their underlying globalized bases; the analysis and understanding of US and global private-sector firm and industry strategies, practices, perspectives, capabilities, and limitations; and the analysis of the private-sector-government interface.

Provides service to the College and University community through rotating roles, to include serving and/or leading College or University-wide committees related to such areas as strategic planning, accreditation, admissions, etc.; advising leaders, faculty and staff colleagues in areas of expertise; and participating in College/University activities.

Participates in outreach activities in furtherance of the mission of the ES and NDU. Advises and consults with senior DOD officials involved in the policy-making process.

This is a non-critical sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a secret security determination to occupy a non-critical sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

A master's degree with a focus in areas such as business economics, industry analysis, supply chain management, technology and innovation, international political economy, business strategy, industrial and organizational analysis, defense economics, or acquisition, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent).

A substantial record of excellence in teaching, research and outreach in a discipline related to national security resourcing, supply chain management, technology and innovation, industrial organization, industry analysishigh-technology, defense industries or business strategy at an accredited higher education institution.

Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary and case-based methods and ability to teach a wide range of curriculum relevant to national security and resourcing strategy, industrial base capabilities to include the integration of strategy and resourcing, and the analysis of defense resourcing alternatives, the national innovation base, and the national/defense industrial base.

Sustained record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers and external recognition of excellence related to US, European, Russian, or Indo-Pacific national security resourcing, national innovation bases and defense industrial bases.

Sustained record of advancement of institutional partnerships, relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security resourcing and defense industries. Experience organizing, leading and participating in graduate and/or senior executive education program study groups involving domestic and international site visits (field studies).


Education

A master's degree with a focus in areas such as business economics, industry analysis, supply chain management, technology and innovation, international political economy, business strategy, industrial and organizational analysis, defense economics, or acquisition, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


An earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree with a focus in areas such as business economics, industry analysis, supply chain management, technology and innovation, international political economy, business strategy, industrial and organizational analysis, defense economics, or acquisition, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent).

Experience analyzing: 1) The national innovation base and (defense) industrial base and their underlying globalized bases in order to more effectively incorporate their potential contributions to national security; 2) The US ,global private-sector or national state-owned enterprise firm and industry strategies, practices, perspectives, capabilities, and limitations; and 3) The private-sector-government interface.

Experience analyzing the national innovation base and (defense) industrial base of countries in Europe, Russia, and the Indo-Pacific region to include national, firm, or industry strategies, practices, perspectives, capabilities, and limitations.

Academic and professional experience to teach aspects of one or more of the following fields:
-Integrated National Security and Resource Strategy: The security environment and the contributions effects of all the instruments of national power-creating, assessing, defining, and implementing resource-informed policy at the national strategic level, with whole of government approaches to national security policy in an interagency and international context The integrated development, execution, and assessment of national security strategy and its resourcing. Applying and integrating joint, interagency, intergovernmental, international, and multinational capabilities - their development, procurement, sustainment, deployment, operational uses and redeployment - to achieve strategic and theater objectives under conditions of great power completion. Analysis and learning from the perspective of theory, history, economics, doctrine, and the application of joint warfighting principles and concepts in globally-integrated joint operations.

- Strategic Leadership: The leadership, transformation, and sustainment of innovative, agile, and ethical organizations in a joint, interagency, intergovernmental and multinational strategic environment.


CRITERIA FOR DETERMING ACADEMIC RANK:

- Assistant Professor requires an earned master's degree, doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree preferred, in business administration, economics, public policy, or a related discipline involving the study of firms, markets, industry institutions, and government regulation of industry. Education or teaching experience in an academic environment, knowledge of best practices, and commitment to lifelong learning, and preferably has at least two years, or the instructional equivalent, of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited college or university, scholarship/research resulting in the creation and sharing of new knowledge through teaching or publishing; and aptitude in collaboration across institutional boundaries.
- Associate Professor requires an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in business administration, economics, public policy or a related discipline involving the study of firms, markets, industry institutions, and government regulation of industry. Requires 5 years teaching experience, with at least 2 years graduate, record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers, and external recognition of excellence and record of advancement of institutional partnerships, relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security

Salary range:
Assistant Professor - $69,581 - $87,185
Associate Professor - $115,699 - $131,049

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

A screening panel will review your resume and narrative answers to the assessment questions to evaluate your qualifications for the position. NDU uses a multi-tier selection process for academic positions You must attach a separate document with answers to the questions listed below. 2. Describe your experience in scholarly activities in areas relevant to US, European, Russian, or Indo-Pacific national security resourcing, national innovation bases, and national/defense industrial bases as demonstrated by presentations, publications, outreach, and consulting.
3. Describe your experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching, in which you have integrated theory and frameworks from fields such as finance, marketing, economics, logistics, management, technology, innovation, public policy, strategy, science and engineering; and your experience writing cases and teaching notes as well as facilitating case-based seminar discussion
4.Describe your experience interacting with high-level US, international, and foreign public and private sector officials, officers, executives, and leaders; and your experience organizing, leading and participating in graduate and/or senior executive education program study groups involving domestic and international site visits (field studies).
