Summary

Join the team! This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Office of the Executive Director, Directorate for Epidemiology (EP), Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction (EXHR). The incumbent designs, and develops mathematical principles, theories, and techniques, for statistical methods to be used by Survey Statisticians and Program Analyst in the Division.

Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for:
  • Serving as the Commission's technical expert in numerous statistical/mathematical product study areas, particularly with respect to the statistical design of experiments and statistical risk analyses required for the conduct of major consumer product studies;
  • Establishing comprehensive nationwide survey and data analysis protocols to ensure the production of highly reliable hazard, human factors and risk data;
  • Identifying data needs for specific projects and developing innovative approaches to collection of data and required analyses, as well as advising on alternative statistical methods of data collection and analysis;
  • Developing written assessments of various study findings regarding analytical study designs and implementation, data analyses and evaluation of hazard and injury data.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Authoritative source of knowledge in a wide range of statistical/mathematical methods and analyses; 2) Expertise in statistical design of experiments, risk analyses, nationwide survey, data design and analyses; 3) Experience in generating innovative and/or alternative approaches to data collection and statistical analyses; and 4) Communicate with and advise top agency officials on all statistical and data collection issues.

Education

Mandatory Education Requirement. All applicants must meet one of the following requirements to qualify: a bachelor's or higher degree which included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics; or a combination of education and experience with at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement indicated above, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience (as stated above) equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level.
