Lead Lab EngineerHome Innovation Research Labs is seeking an energetic team player with excellent communication skills. We are searching for a highly professional candidate to work in our materials and structures lab for product certification testing and research related to the housing industry. This position includes office responsibilities as well as oversight and hands-on assistance on the lab floor. You will be coordinating all laboratory activities to ensure work is completed on time and in accordance with project requirements and test standards. You will support laboratory staff in testing, including set-up and tear-down. You will work with the lab director to maintain laboratory accreditations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, analytical and critical thinking skills, excellent communication skills, solution-oriented knowledge, and a collaborative attitude that is essential for working in our lab. The candidate is required to have practical knowledge of science and engineering, as well as mathematics or computer science. Requirements:BS degree in engineering or related field5+ Years of laboratory experience or related experienceKnowledge of construction industry, building codes and ASTM standardsRead and interpret standards and codes to make recommendations in developing testing programs, lab protocols, training, test reports and expanding testing capabilitiesAbility to instrument test specimens with data acquisition sensorsStrong construction skills - ability to build test specimens and assemblies (walls, roofs, floors and other systems) to exacting specificationsInterpret test data to create and write technical reports per ASTM and other test standardsModerate lifting required as part of day to day job functionsAdditional preferred set of skills:Experience in an ISO17025 accredited test lab Experience programming with LabVIEWFamiliarity with various test instruments and data acquisition for testingResponsibilities:Plan, organize and work with lab director on orchestrating product testing and certification activities, including construction of test specimens and assembliesPerform construction materials laboratory testing per ASTM and other test standardsEnforce compliance of all related work to quality and procedure requirementsAssist with laboratory accreditation efforts, including participating in audits and ensuring adherence to Quality Management System (QMS)Independently conduct virtual inspection of products to determine compliance with applicable standardsTravel when needed (approximately once a month) to train field representatives on assigned testing programsPerform maintenance, arrange calibration and operation of laboratory testing equipmentEnsure that the laboratory equipment and facilities are well-maintainedEnsure that samples are handled and tested in accordance with test standards and specifications and results reported in a timely manner.
