Our higher education client seeks a Learning Designer in the Learning Design Solutions (LDS) group. Reporting to the Learning Design Manager, the Learning Designer applies knowledge of best practices in pedagogy and learning design in the development and evaluation of online instructional materials for The Undergraduate School, The Graduate School, other divisions, and extra-university agencies, as needed. The Learning Designer collaborates with Program Chairs, Faculty, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create and revise courses and materials that demonstrate sound instruction, produce desired learning outcomes, and develop targeted competencies. Additionally, the Learning Designer will collaborate with the broader learning design team, taking design initiative on all aspects of course development, and recommending solutions to design and project management challenges. Finally, the Learning Designer will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage their design work load. Successful performance in this role requires the Learning Designer to demonstrate a high level of competence in the following areas All aspects of the learning design process assessing curriculum needs, analyzing learner background knowledge and instructional requirements, determining learning objectives and outcomes, and designing and developing instructional experiences that most effectively target learning outcomes. Developing learning solutions by applying progressive and evidence-based instructional practices. Incorporating various learning technologies and digital tools in order to enhance instructional effectiveness and support successful student outcomes. Developing instructional content, learning strategies, and assessments that align with goals and objectives. Leading and facilitating clear and professional communication with internal and external team members in a variety of contexts, including email discussions, conference calls, and face-to-face and online presentations. Taking initiative to identify problems and recommend solutions to various challenges that arise during the course development process. Working independently and collaboratively on all aspects of the course design and development process. Refining and redesigning existing curriculum based on assessment data. Project management, from project planning through completion and evaluation. Collaboration, creativity, flexibility, timeliness, professionalism, with a strong commitment to quality. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE Facilitate quality learning design and resource development for online and hybrid courses, in collaboration with faculty and staff. Independently execute learning design projects, which include developing and monitoring project plans and schedules managing the workflow of the development process by coordinating the input from content experts and other team members facilitating project team meetings managing SME expectations, relationships, and deliverables managing project risks and conflicts and managing the project through to delivery. Facilitate clear communication between all stakeholders in the course development process. Independently lead meetings, manage discussions, and negotiate sensitive interactions with internal and external team members. Establish and maintain the best evidence-based practices in the design, development, and evaluation of courses, course materials, and student learning. Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and courses and refine them based on assessment data. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Successful candidates will possess a Master-s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in Education, Instructional Design or related field (or the equivalent work experience). Minimum of five (3) to five (5) years of experience designing, producing, and creating online instruction and assessment tools, and assuring quality of instructional materials. Knowledge of instructional design, learning theories, learning technologies, and pedagogical and andragogical theories, principles, methodologies, and applications for higher education. Familiarity with current trends and developments in instructional design and higher education, including open educational resources, competency-based learning, adaptive learning, personalized learning, and intellectual property. Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume a leadership role on a design and development team. Project management knowledge and skills including organizing, scheduling, leading teams, reporting and identifying risks. Work in a fast-paced deadline-driven, multimedia, team environment. Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience developing course and course materials as an instructional designer. Instructional design experience in higher education. Direct experience taking the project management lead on instructional design projects. Experience developing course and course materials for progressive educational paradigms, such as competency-based learning, open educational resources, and adaptive learning platforms.
