Responsibilities

The incumbent of this position serves as one of the several air traffic controllers (NOTAM Specialists) who provide technical expertise in the administration of the Federal NOTAM System. Global Position System. NOTAM Generation System/GPS RAIM Outage Reporting System and the NOTAM Entry System. The incumbent is responsible for developing, disseminating and interpreting operating procedures and practices associated with the United States NOTAM System (USNS).

As a subject matter expert. the Specialist reviews NOTAM information for compliance with applicable directives and for correcting discrepancies. The incumbent performs routine quality control checks in concert with other international procedures to support policy as related to global NOTAM database.

The NOTAM specialist uses expertise to maintain and disseminate worldwide aeronautical data in the form of a NOTAM in accordance with international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO ).

The incumbent provides training to the NOTAM developmental specialists. The incumbent performs NOTAM Specialist in Change (NSIC) duties as required. Also familiarizes the operational air traffic control specialists at the Air Traffic Control System Command Center(ATCSCC) and other personnel as requested to U.S. NOTAM processes and processing of NOTAM data.

Qualifications

Experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes:

Experience reviewing, formatting and disseminating high volume of NOTAMs using the Federal Notam System and legacy systems (e.g. ENII, BHIV, OASIS, NES, AISR, etc.)

Knowledge of and experience applying policy outlined in FAAO 7930.2.

General knowledge of airport operations environments and procedures of the National Airspace System.

Knowledge of International Civil Aviation Organization rules and procedures pertaining to NOTAMs.

Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and in a variety of situations.

Ability to coordinate actions in a timely and accurate manner with other specialists, airports and air traffic facilities.

This position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
