Stevenson Consulting, Inc. is seeking a junior level Geotechnical Engineer to join our Chantilly, VA office. This is a staff level position performing subsurface engineering investigations and construction materials and engineering assignments under the direction of a Professional Engineer. Also, develops solutions, makes recommendations, and prepares engineering reports for review. Responsibilities: Provide geotechnical oversight and logging of geotechnical explorations (borings, test pits, CPTs); Developing laboratory and field testing programs; Preparing engineering analyses for slope stability, settlement and consolidation estimates, deep foundation design, mat foundation design, ground surcharging, and ground improvement techniques; Preparing engineering reports, including the evaluation of collected field and laboratory results, preparation of figures and drawings; Providing field oversight for Special Inspection during construction for subgrade inspection, controlled filling and in-place density testing, deep foundation installation (driven/drilled piles). Underpinning and Support of Excavation (SOE) experience a plus. Perform various field and laboratory tests on soils, concrete, and aggregate materials Reviews observation and test data for accuracy and completeness Assists with technician training as needed Works with project engineers and clients to ensure that project specifications are followed Assist engineers by performing the routine aspects of geotechnical engineering assignments Coordinates project assignments with other engineers and technicians Develops solutions, makes recommendations, and prepares engineering reports for review Prepares field reports documenting contractor's work methods, test results, and the interpretation of these tests Required Skills: Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel), AutoCAD, end ability to learn and adopt new engineering software Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings and procedures or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
