Responsibilities

  • Operates the motor vehicle safely in order to prevent damage to the vehicle and any injury to the passengers.
  • Check fuel, oil, coolant, and battery levels of the vehicle.
  • Provide written and oral reports on all apparent vehicle malfunctions.
  • Proceed to destinations by the most advantageous route.
  • Inspect vehicle for leaks, checking headlights, brake and signal turn lights for proper operating.
  • Performs operators maintenance in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate arrangements for emergency repair.
  • Maintain a street sweeper and sweeping operation on paved roads.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State Motor Vehicle Operator License, Operator License, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) (P) endorsement.
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Vehicle Operators permit by passing the written and road test.
  • The incumbent will be subject to a physical and drug testing both prior to hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Overtime is required.
  • Incumbent is considered an emergency employee and is required to report to duty during closure situations.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Motor Vehicle Operator tasks such as proceeding to different routes upon request, performing simple maintenance and inspection tasks under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:
Light to moderate physical effort is required in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads due to the number of passengers. Moderate physical effort may be required in the handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
Operates vehicles day or night in all types of traffic and weather conditions for all shifts. Operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and other injuries as a result of accident while driving vehicles. Must agree to work any of three shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) with proper notification. If required, must agree to wear government provided uniform while operating vehicles. If required to work overtime, must agree to do so and will be compensated at the authorized overtime rate.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
