Summary

This position leads HR Assistant staff responsible for personnel action processing at NIST.

Responsibilities

This position leads HR Assistant staff on the Processing Team responsible for personnel action processing. Mentors and trains new staff. Monitors and works daily personnel action reports to review action status, ensure timely processing, and resolve any issues with employee self-service via the Employee Personal Page. Provides advice and guidance to staff on Human Resources issues. Troubleshoots and resolves complex processing, pay, and leave errors, makes necessary corrections, and shares information for process improvement. Conducts quality review of personnel actions completed by HR Assistant staff for accuracy and timeliness. Recommends and develops operational policies and procedures to supervisor. Uses automated systems to input, update, and retrieve HR information or reports. Serves as point of contact for annual audits as they relate to the personnel processing function to include response to and coordination of document requests and corrective actions.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level (or ZS-IV at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience processing a variety of personnel actions using an automated personnel/pay system; researching and resolving complex processing errors; and monitoring and working personnel processing reports.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
