Job Summary/Company: Sparks has partnered with a leader in the media sector, and we are supporting them as their portfolio continues to grow - around the world and across platforms - the Global Technology & Operations team is building media technology and IT systems that meet the world class standard for which our client is known. GT&O builds, implements and maintains the business systems and technology that are critical for delivering our client's products, while articulating the long-term technology strategy that will enable our client's growing pay-TV, digital terrestrial, free-to-air and online services to reach more audiences on more platforms.

The Role:

The Senior Software Engineer, Content Solutions Design and Development is a member of our client's Global Technology & Operations (GT&O) group, with a focus on media operations and content supply chain. The Content Solutions team finds and builds new technology solutions that allow our client to adapt in a rapidly changing media industry. As part of that group, you will design and implement new systems and features to make our client's content supply chain more automated, efficient, and effective. This includes working within our client's cloud-based supply chain orchestration platform, SDVI Rally, as well as the host of other connected applications that make up our client's content ecosystem. You will work with Content Solutions agile development teams to implement the solutions that you design. The successful candidate is a concise, experienced software engineer who can design systems that will meet our client's present and future needs in a changing industry. He/she is an effective communicator who can clearly express complex ideas both verbally and in writing. He/she is a capable team player who develops and maintains effective partnerships with other groups both inside and outside of GT&O and our client.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of the web with a bias towards modern client-side web development. He/she should be conversant with design for cloud native applications, SQL and Non-SQL data stores, secure coding practices; and DevOps deployment and tooling.

Key responsibilities:

• Serve as a Technical Lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external/vendor team members.

• Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the content supply portfolio of applications and services

• Drive continuous improvement in Discovery's software development efforts by instilling best-of-breed engineering practices.

• Design, develop, modify, implement, and support software components anywhere in the stack - from server-side RESTful services to client-side JavaScript code.

• Assist in task planning, estimation, scheduling and staffing.

• Review the work of other peers on project teams and mentor junior developers

• Work in close partnership with other team members and other teams.

Qualifications/Background Profile:

• Minimum 8-years of commercial web development.
• Experience in and success with Agile software development methodologies, especially Scrum, XP and Kanban.
• Experience with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), and microservices and functions as service.
• Experience in, and preference for, developing software using CI and continuous delivery practices.
• Knowledge of JavaScript and/or TypeScript, CSS, and modern UI frameworks (Angular, React, Backbone.js, Vue.js, Ember.js, Knockout) is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge and experience developing in python
• Experience with a variety of open source Java frameworks and tools related to server-side development.
