INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN Primary Responsibilities: EVC is seeking a full-time Industrial Hygiene Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will possess practical knowledge of Industrial Hygiene and related safety and environmental concepts, principles and practices to support the Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Program where military and civilian personnel work and serve. Practical experience using the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) and Business Intelligence Common Services (BCS) applications is required.Schedule and conduct routine assessments to determine hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures. Integrate established industrial hygiene principles, concepts, and functions in support of related programs, such as safety, occupational medicine, biosafety, chemical surety, and readiness, respiratory protection, indoor air quality, asbestos control, lead abatement, and environmental compliance. Identify situations where engineering and administrative controls and/or personal protective equipment are not adequate to prevent occupational related illnesses, injuries, or deaths to military and civilian workers.Conduct surveys and sampling; analyze findings and prepare reports.Identify new work processes or materials for evaluation to ensure incorporation of adequate measures for prevention of occupational disease hazards.Utilize comprehensive industrial hygiene air sampling strategies for occupational air contaminants of concern.Ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local laws and Air Force Instructions addressing occupational health.Conduct DOEHRS-IH data entry and Industrial Hygiene Assessments (IHAs).Generate and interpret BCS report data for analysis of DOEHRS-IH data; establish gaps from existing regulatory requirements.Communicate courses of action which include detailed recommendations of necessary corporate business practices.Possess strong analytical skills.Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Tasks Performed:Plans and conducts, within area of expertise, a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Allocates work and provides advice, guidance, and training to lower level technicians as appropriate. Orders laboratory equipment as necessary. Performs additional responsibilities as appropriate or as requested. Essential Functions:Assists the professional technical staff in related areas: Programs, operates, maintains and repairs a variety of laboratory test equipment and machinery. Performs sample preparation and metallographic examination of diverse materials using light optical and scanning electron microscopy. Performs experiments and mechanical testing which may require non-standard procedures and complex instrumentation. Compiles and computes engineering data after thorough test analysis.Minimum Physical Requirements:Regularly or frequently talking, hearing, touching, grasping, standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms and performing repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus to review test results, perform testing of CSTRS, install strain gage, view PC screen, read technical manuals, calibration of machines and equipment, adjust equipment, use measuring devices, microscopes, etc. Desired Job Experience:High school diploma plus additional coursework equivalent to an Associate's degree from accredited college or university with a concentration in: Industrial Hygiene; Occupational Health Sciences; Occupational and Environmental Health; Occupational Safety and Health; Toxicology; Safety Sciences; or a related science. Extensive directly related technical work experience. Demonstrated skill in using a variety of standard tools and laboratory equipment. Minimum of 5 years of broad-scope industrial hygiene experience performing: Evaluations of work environments and industrial processes (eg, thermal stressors, noise, toxicology, biohazards, ergonomic) involving potentially hazardous environment conditions. Analysis of findings to provide recommendations of corrective measures (eg, non-engineering controls and engineering controls). Industrial hygiene investigations (eg, ergonomic and indoor air quality) using industrial hygiene equipment and sampling techniques for standard chemical and physical hazards.DOEHRS-IH data entry .BSC or Business Objects report retrieval and analysis.Excel/Word/PowerPoint functions. Other Qualifications:Concentrated attention to precisely weigh samples and chemicals, run tests and make adjustments while in progress, calibrate equipment, write reports, operate analytical equipment, etc. Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagrammatic, or schedule form. Intermediate to advanced math skills to deal with mathematical relationships, algebra, geometry, and shop math (ie fractions, percentages, proportions, slide rule, etc.). Intermediate reading and writing skills.Work requires the ability to obtain and maintain a CAC Card.Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
