You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the UTILITIES AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT (UEM) BRANCH, PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT (PWD) of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Responsibilities

  • You will coordinate electrical plans to ensure work meets the specifications of the construction design.
  • You will interpret technical engineering guidelines to lead the correction of deficiencies detected within electrical systems or equipment.
  • You will develop drawings and sketches for project implementation (e.g., facility layouts, facility equipment design, modification drawings, equipment design modification).
  • You will evaluate documented engineering procedures to assess the potential impact on other projects.
  • You will monitor job site work for compliance with safety requirements.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field FACILITIES ENGINEERING Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.
  • Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Applies standard engineering knowledge and techniques, estimating criteria, building codes, and/or safety regulations to develop technical contract documents; 2) Performs visual and predictive maintenance inspections and assessments of electrical utility facilities, distribution systems, and electrical equipment to identify issues; 3) Provides remediation recommendations, scopes of work, and/or cost estimates to meet the needs of project; and 4) Supports field investigations by producing AutoCAD deliverables in support of requirement generation. This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

PHYSICIAL DEMANDS: The work is usually sedentary and in an office setting though some field work is required which consist of walking, bending, climbing, digging, carrying up to 30 pounds of equipment and lifting/opening manhole lids, meter pits. etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work is performed in a typical office setting, however, occasional field inspections are made which will require protective clothing such as hard hats, reflective vests, hard-toed boots, safety glasses and hearing protection. Other protective wear such as safety harnesses, coveralls, and gloves may be required for certain situations. the incumbent may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful mechanical, electrical and chemical agents are present. The incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess qualifications for duty involving agents such as protective equipment, adherence to related regulations and medical surveillance.
