Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Pharmacist in the Director Clinical Support Services, Pharmacy of NAVMEDCEN PORTSMOUTH VA.

Responsibilities

  • You will plan, direct, and coordinate outpatient-dispensing services. Develops and execute policies and procedures to optimize pharmacy operations.
  • You will develop and maintain position descriptions and performance standards for subordinate pharmacy personnel.
  • You will coordinate the hiring process for all vacancies and make recommendations for new positon in accordance with established Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) staffing standards
  • You will interview candidates for vacant subordinate positions and make recommendations for appointment, promotion or reassignment involving such positions.
  • You will develop and provide training assignments to new employees and maintain an ongoing continuing education program with appropriate documentation of training for all personnel.
  • You will be responsible for the development of competency assessment for all pharmacy personnel and coordinates the initial and annual completion of such competencies.
  • You will manage the daily operations of the pharmacy. Plan work, make assignments, and manages work schedules for pharmacists.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
  • Successfully completed a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND
  • Possess a current license to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND
  • Able to distinguish basic colors.
OR
  • Currently employed as a Pharmacist in the federal government as of September 2017. AND
  • Have a Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD degree recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. AND
  • Possess a current license to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND
  • Able to distinguish basic colors.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of professional pharmacist experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: dispense, prescribe and administer medication; assist in designing drug regimen and ordering changes in therapy and lab test after patient monitoring and drug therapy review; evaluate drug literature; assist in designing and conducting interdisciplinary educational programs in the areas of drug therapy for physicians, nurses and other health professionals.
