Prestigious DC law firm has an immediate need for a Human Resources Assistant.  The candidate will provide support in the recruitment and onboarding of new hires, maintain accurate data in all HR systems and files, plans and executes employee events, and assists with the performance evaluation process.  In addition, the Assistant will be the primary point of contact for the department with both internal and external customers.  Responsibilities fall under four distinct categories:


  • Creates and maintains employment, benefit, events and vendor files for department
  • Prepares check requests for  invoices, processes expense reimbursements and tracks HR expenses against budget
  • Drafts communication material for Human Resources department as needed
  • Performs clerical functions such as copying, and scanning
  • Responds to requests for verification of employment
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers responding to requests or inquiries in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure all HR and Benefit forms are up-to-date and fully stocked in HR
  • Schedules meetings as required
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Recruitment & Employment

  • Assists with the drafting of job postings for open positions
  • Posts positions on internal and external employment websites
  • Assists in scheduling interviews and escorting candidates to meetings
  • Initiates skills testing of applicants and forwards results to hiring manager
  • Collects and shares interview evaluation forms for each candidate
  • Maintains recruitment database, updates status for each applicant
  • Ensures communication with candidates regarding the status of their application
  • Performs reference and background checks on selected candidates
  • Prepares new hire welcome packets, schedules orientation with all administrative departments; Requests data watch keys
  • Sends out intake notices, employee transfer & departure notices
  • Conduct office tours for new hires
  • Processes I-9 information in E-verify and maintains I-9 books as required
  • Respond to requests for verification of employment

HR Systems

  • Assists with yearly staff evaluation process including process set-up in viDesktop, monitoring completion, follow up, collection and updating employee files
  • Prepares compensation change letters and prepare Wage Theft Prevention Notices for all pay changes
  • Distributes, monitor and collect 30 day and 90 day evaluations
  • Responsible for maintenance of Seamless-Web

Employee Relations & Benefits

  • Assists with planning, coordination and execution of staff events including Fox Breaks, Staff Appreciation  & Retirement Celebrations
  • Manages the Milestone Anniversary program; coordinate gift orders
  • Assists in the coordination of with Firm's charitable, pro-bono and diversity initiatives
  • Assist benefits department with Smart Trip program administration

A college degree in HR or business is required with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and 1-2 years of related experience is preferred.  The candidate should have demonstrated a strong HR interest through internships or related experiences.  Proficiency in MS Office is required.  This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and strong customer service skills.  Firm offers a generous benefits package
