Position Summary To abstract professional/ technical charges and ICD-10 codes from clinical information of medical records for billing purposes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. Abstracts professional and technical charges from clinical information of medical records for the purpose of patient billing. Analyzes and evaluates medical records for professional services provided and assigns appropriate ICD-10 disease code. Complies daily monthly billed revenue statistical reports Verifies accuracy of keyed charges. Implement Charge Correction on errors and/or corrections sent back from the department. Assures completeness of financial and demographic information on the medical record. Separates and distributes medical record copies to appropriate parties. Report DAWN patient to the director For GWU charts. Assist patients, insurance companies and other offices with billing and insurance inquiries Pre-Certifications and pre-authorizations of procedure and office visits Insurance verification, collect copays and coinsurances for visits and procedures Compile a spreadsheet In Excel of credits and refunds weekly Collect balances on accounts Coding is also required. Education High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary ART Certification or equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary. Experience A minimum of six months to one year of coding experience is designated nomenclature Competencies Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyze data as requested. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
