The Vice President of Global Safety and Security Operations will have oversight of teams deployed in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa with a dotted line reporting to the continent COOs. He/She must possess strong command of safety and security protocol, deeply networked with local and governmental law enforcement agencies and outstanding communication skills. He/She must have the ability to provide day-to-day leadership to all aspects of safety and security ensuring that both the COOs and Global Leader for GS&S remain regularly apprised and informed of all key issues. He/She is astute in knowing which tools and resources are available to address legal and cultural differences across diverse countries. EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS * Develops the strategy and approach for the delivery of security training. Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of the security program and implement a system to track and report physical security issues. * Effectively manage the audit compliance program and partner with continent leads to institute plans that will evaluate, track and provide for a quick response to external security threats. * Direct oversight for managing the threat condition program leveraging information provided by intelligence and other resources. * Develop effective emergency procedures and crisis management/incident response protocols. * Manage the development and implementation of global security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security. * Manage executive protection programs for talent and executives as required. * Ability to translate security/safety strategies into actions that mitigate risk to the region. Using knowledge of Marriott's business and scanning the competitive environment, anticipate and identify opportunities and challenges to respond with effective strategies and actions that are aligned with overarching services delivered by GS&S. * Provide proactive consultation to continent leaders in the development and implementation of crisis management; advise on benefits and potential risks. Formulate security mitigation plans collaborating with continent GS&S leads, COOs, CLSO, VP, Operations and other stakeholders groups as appropriate. * Partner with Sales& Marketing to provide assurance of Marriott's safety and security protocol for prospective conferences and other special events being held at Marriott properties. * Develops and maintains strong relationships with continent leaders, Risk Managers leaders and other key stakeholders to provide guidance and/or consultation, as appropriate, to effectively influence business decisions and ultimately financial outcomes and optimize overall work effectiveness. * Participates on intra and cross-discipline project teams providing a strategic safety and security perspective to the work and helping the project team achieve their objectives. * Champion leadership development and workforce planning priorities by personally assessing, selecting, retaining and developing diverse, high- caliber talent that can lead the organization today and strengthen the leadership bench for the future. Work with Human Resources to anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans and allocates resources appropriately. * Performs all other duties as business needs demand. CANDIDATE PROFILE * Minimum 15 years' security management experience in a global organization with increasing management responsibility including security and crisis management * Relevant security leadership experience ideally with US State Department OSAC, intelligence community, law enforcement, military, or private sector corporate security organizations. * Must have familiarization with weapon systems and explosive devices. * Must have excellent knowledge of global political issues, particularly in high risk environments. * Minimum of 7 years' experience in a management role; demonstrated success leading and developing others in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment. * Extensive experience in security issues related to the region, intimate knowledge of the different countries and their specific security challenges. * Exhibits strong functional leadership and security knowledge; able to leverage this strength to influence business team strategies and decisions. * Able to consistently make decisions in a timely manner sometimes under tight deadlines and pressure. * Ability to provide counsel to senior leadership and working in a stressful, fluid changing real time environment while maintaining tact, diplomacy and strength of character. * Demonstrated ability to develop and execute security strategies in matrixed organizations on an ongoing basis or in crisis situations. * Able to orchestrate systemic change - initiates, supports and manages change within the organization, taking steps to remove barriers or to accelerate its pace. * Operates with a collaborative mindset to ensure that key stakeholders are considered, eliminating the need for duplicate systems; builds strong relationships to leverage information and insights to anticipate and respond to project risks; communicates well with project and other leaders; openly shares and does not withhold information. * Ability to sell ideas persuasively; settles differences and wins concessions without damaging relationships; can be both direct and forceful while remaining diplomatic. * Strong leader of people - ability to create compelling vision, demonstrate flexibility in approach, and motivate others (to achieve desired results; ability to work in a matrix organization and make things happen without having to own all of the resources; leverages shared resources to achieve results. * Strong interpersonal skills; must be a successful "networker" and able to maintain effective relationships, both internally and externally. * Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing; listens to others and effectively comprehends information; creates an environment allowing timely information flows throughout the organization. * Responsive; ability to integrate and balance priorities, work activities and resources for the benefit of multiple key stakeholders. * Results oriented; delivers results under difficult conditions and demonstrates balanced judgment under pressure.
