The mission of the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars (RC) at the University of Washington is threefold: teaching, research, and service. The RC is a leader in the nation for developing programs that serve highly capable young pre-college and college students, and is committed to increasing access and fostering student potential among students historically marginalized and excluded from advanced learning opportunities.. Through early entrance programs we prepare younger students for college and provide them with challenging, accelerated learning opportunities in a vibrant, intellectual community at the University of Washington. We also provide outreach through enrichment, professional development, online, summer and Saturday programs. The Robinson Center is a site for research and discovery of best practice, and maintains the UW's position as an internationally renowned center of gifted education.. The Robinson Center has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Transition School Principal.. The Transition School Principal reports to the Robinson Center Director, and will oversee the daily operations of the program. The Principal is responsible for the hiring and supervision of all TS faculty and teaching aides, coordinating the admissions process, and handling all student related issues.. Overseeing the Transition School admissions process;. Designing, coordinating and leading orientations for teachers, parents and students;. Handling all disputes and discipline issues with students, as needed by the faculty;. Preparing and approving all final transcripts, overseeing all correspondence;. Making decisions regarding financial aid awards for students. Working with Director and Administrator to develop criteria for financial aid;. Contributing to decisions regarding admittance of students who have completed Transition School into the Early Entrance Program;. Hiring all faculty and teaching assistants. Making decisions regarding the qualifications and characteristics necessary for faculty employment;. Facilitating weekly TS faculty meetings and monthly RC staff meetings;. Participating in RC Leadership Team meetings, assisting in the design and implementation of larger RC goals, policy, and procedures;. Working within the TS team and across RC programs to design and implement unit-wide goals for increasing diversity and inclusion;. Supervising and evaluating all faculty, with regular staff meetings and classroom visits;. Organizing and facilitating "Parent Night" during Autumn and Winter quarters;. Coordinating and chaperoning two overnight cohort-building trips with Transition School students: Camp Huston (in September) and Camp Casey (in June);. Coordinating the Transition School Graduation ceremony;. Other duties as needed.. Bachelor's degree in Education or related field;. At least 3-4 years of teaching experience at the college level;. Experience working with younger students (ages 13-15);. Able to attend all required events (occasional nights, weekends, and overnights).. A Ph.C. or Ph.D. in Education or related field;. Experience working with diverse populations, expertise in teaching/supporting underrepresented students;. Familiarity with gifted education..
