Responsibilities Position Summary Accion seeks an experienced investment professional to serve as Principal Director to join the Global Investments leadership team to help lead our investing activities and the exploration of new investment vehicles to continue to bring much needed capital to growing financial service providers focused on bottom of the pyramid clients. The Principal Director will have a proven track record of making and exiting investments, ideally in financial institutions in emerging markets, and will help Accion expand its existing portfolio of best-in-class companies that enhance financial inclusion, The Principal Director will be responsible for generating deal flow, building relationships with peer investors, structuring investments, serving on boards, fundraising for portfolio companies and creating exit opportunities. As a leader on the team, the Principal Director will also work closely with Global Advisory Solutions and Accion's regional teams to identify and manage investments, with the mandate to help MFIs, banks, agents and other traditional delivery models integrate technology and innovation to enhance their efficiency, reach and scope. Our vision is to provide capital, governance and advisory services to build inclusive banks of the future. * Lead efforts in developing a pipeline and portfolio of digitally enabled financial services companies that have the potential to become demonstration models worldwide; * Lead negotiations of new deals and follow-ons, transaction documentation and investment committee communications and ultimately, sales and exits * Provide strategic support to portfolio companies, such as input on strategic initiatives and targeted interventions, especially related to digitization of operations; * Represent Accion on portfolio company boards; * Integrate with and influence investee boards and senior management of portfolio companies; * Lead fundraising efforts from likeminded investors; * Work in partnership with the Global Advisory Solutions team to coordinate targeted interventions for portfolio companies. Qualifications * At least 15+ years of post-college work experience, with significant time spent working in emerging markets and financial services; * Masters level degree in business required; * Proven investing and exits track record in financial services / financial inclusion; * Key on the ground relationships in emerging markets to source deal pipeline; * Experience at the senior management or governance level of developing and implementing strategies for digital transformation, ideally in inclusive financial service providers; * Ability to raise capital, influence strategies and develop investment theses; * Experience in developing senior executive presentations and communications; * Strong oral and written communication skills in English required, other languages a plus; * Strong attention to delivery and follow through; * Ability to work independently while leading a global team; * Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple initiatives at one time; * Pragmatic problem-solver, forward thinker with independence of thought; * Cultural sensitivity with ability to interact effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and multi-cultural environments; * Travel is required (ranging from 30%- 50%) * Interested in our mission and working globally. * Willingness to embody our values of excellence, respect and passion for social change. * Excellence: Accion staff should always put forth their best effort in all activities, strive for high quality of collective and individual performance; and demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times while in the workplace and while working on behalf of the organization. * Respect: Accion staff should value one another's roles and responsibilities as much as their own, be encouraging, and value the diverse and unique perspectives of colleagues.
